Two Hills-Beaver Creek High School FFA’ers will be judged later this month on their supervised agricultural experiences.
Junior Hannah Fick and sophomore Carter Hartz earned first place in their proficiency areas at the recent Region VI competition.
Fick’s SAE is in agricultural sales placement.
She works part time at Campbell’s Supply in Sioux Falls.
“My job description is cashier, but my job entails much more than just being a cashier,” Fick said.
In addition to greeting customers, Fick answers questions and assists customers with merchandize in the clothing department.
“I walk around and ask customers if they need help with anything,” Fick said.
Hartz’s SAE is fiber and/or oil crops.
He works on a farm that produces CBD oil or cannabidoil.
“My responsibilities in the beginning included spraying vermiculite onto the hemp starts and watering them,” Hartz said. “As time progressed I was asked to help plant in the field and to help move the starts from the greenhouse onto the planter.”
In region team competition the wildlife judging team placed seventh out of 17 teams.
Team members included Calvin Erickson, Parker Gehrke, Austin Allen, Gavin Wysong and Cole Baker. Erickson placed 14th individually.
The top six teams move on to state competition during the MN FFA Convention April 19-21 in the Twin Cities.
