Hills-Beaver Creek Elementary Parent-Teacher Organization’s first Walk-a-thon raised more than $6,300 for various education activities.
The kindergarten through fifth-grade students walked 346,698 steps around the elementary gymnasium on Feb. 21.
Students collected pledges from Feb. 12-20 and earned points to be used at the school’s Patriot Pride Store. The online pledges were accepted through Feb. 29.
The kindergarten class, for raising the most dollars, and the fifth-grade class, for walking the most steps, earned group fundraising rewards of Patriot Pride points.
Individual fundraising awards were given to kindergartners Remington Seachris and Raylan Leuthold, first-grader Fox Busswitz, second-grader Nora Tatge, third-grader Malachi Bush, fourth-graders Sage DeBoer and Karson Metzger and fifth-grader Hunter Leenderts.
“As a thank you, the PTO wants to provide treats for all the students,” said Walk-a-thon organizer Lexi Moore.
Money raised will be used to support indoor recess activities, classroom supplies for teachers, quiz bowl, Art Night, multiplication sundaes, sixth-grade field trip, Fall Festival inflatables and prizes for the Patriot Pride Store.
Another walk-a-thon is planned for the 2020-2021 school year.
