Linda Dummer was an avid supporter of the local arts, and one organization received a boost last week from the late Luverne resident.
Dummer’s sister, Deb Harris, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, presented the Green Earth Players a check for $5,064 at the organization’s annual meeting Sept. 3. Harris’ husband, Terry, and their daughter, Emily, presented the certificate from the The Linda Dummer Memorial.
“Green Earth Players was her passion and you were her family,” Harris said. “We hope this memorial will help keep Green Earth going a little while longer.”
Members shared memories with the Harris family about Dummer’s copious notes, her memory for costumes and her preparedness for the upcoming productions.
GEP board member Dianne Ossenfort said a portion of the memorial will go toward organizing the production photos from the various shows into albums, and frames will be purchased to display cast photos at the GEP building on West Main Street.
“Pictures were important to Linda,” Ossenfort said.
Dummer died from cancer April 5, the opening night of the GEP production of “Drinking Habits,” which ran April 5-7 and 11-14 and was directed by Sue Sandbulte.
“We saw people there that have never been there (to a GEP production) before,” Ossenfort said.
GEP’s other production since the 2018 annual meeting was “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” directed by LaDonna VanAartson.
“It was a great play,” said GEP board member Terri Ebert.
The pageant play was performed last November.
For the 2019-20 GEP season, two productions are again scheduled:
•“The Beverly Hillbillies,” directed by Jacqueline Humke, Nov. 15-17 and 21-24.
•“The Game’s Afoot,” directed by Carol Ceynowa, March 20-22 and 26-29, 2020.
In honor of Dummer, a mural will be painted down the stairs to the GEP costume room.
A saying of Dummer’s is already written above the door: “No food, drinks or smoking in costume.”
