Four Luverne High School juniors will participate in the upcoming annual Girls and Boys State programs sponsored by local American Legions in Minnesota.
Locally, the Hardwick American Legion Auxiliary is sponsoring Sophie Lanoue and the Luverne Auxiliary is sponsoring Hannah Ehlers to the Minnesota Girls State program.
Girls State takes place June 9-15 at Bethel University in St. Paul.
Boys State is conducted during the same week but at St. John’s University in Collegeville.
Gunnar Oldre is the Hardwick American Legion representative and Jordan Winter represents the Luverne American Legion.
Open to high school juniors only, the state program provides participants with the opportunity to experience how government works. Participants also work on leadership skills and learn about their rights as citizens.
American legions and auxiliaries across Minnesota finance the experience for the selected high school juniors.
