Firefly approved for historic facade approval

Another downtown Luverne business will be updated through the Historic Facade Improvement Program, according to action at a recent Luverne Economic Development Authority meeting.
The LEDA board approved a façade improvement application by David and Stacy Riphagen for their Firefly business at 210 E. Main Street.
It operates as a sister business to their Dragonfly Boutique business downtown.
The planned improvements include removing wood facade; repairing, cleaning, and tuck pointing brick as needed; replacing four upper-story windows; cleaning glass block in the transom area; fabricating and installing an aluminum awning; and updating signage.
The building once served as Treats Drug Store around 1910, and the proposal included photographs of the brick-front business with tall second-floor windows as it appeared then.
The goal of the Firefly façade improvement is to bring back some of the historic appeal of the turn-of-the-century drug store downtown.
The Riphagens will receive a grant in the amount of $11,550 and are choosing to forgo the loan portion of the program.
