Hot Dog Night crowds enjoyed a bonus art exhibit Thursday night at Coffey Contemporary Arts when its new display, “Expression is Elementary,” opened to the public.
This spring the gallery teamed up with the Luverne Elementary School and the PPIE booster club to create the exhibit and generate support for the Cardinal Dash fundraiser.
Students in grades K-5 drew pictures based on different books, and their artwork was converted into large-scale paintings, one for each grade and each book.
Coffey Contemporary Arts is a non-profit arts exhibition and education facility headed up by artists Cody and Nicole Henrichs, Luverne.
The facility includes shop workspace and Lord Grizzly Gallery, the large open studio that is currently hosting the “Expression is Elementary” exhibit.
PPIE provided artists and supplies, and any funds raised over the amount needed to cover costs is designated to an art month for each elementary grade level. Any donations during the show will also benefit the art month effort.
