Energy conservation pays back

Lisa Fischer of Missouri River Energy presents a check for $43,712 to Luverne Superintendent Craig Oftedahl (far left) and Luverne School Board Chair Dave Riphagen (far right) during the July 28 Luverne City Council meeting in Luverne City Hall. Also pictured is Luverne Mayor Pat Baustian (second from left). The school district recently replaced a 225-ton chiller with a 120-ton chiller and also installed an ice storage system that helps to curb the district’s peak usage. MRES provides electric power for the city of Luverne, and the school is a city utility customer. According to Fischer, the rebate check is from the city of Luverne through the Bright Energy Solutions Program. It was awarded for the district’s energy savings (from 250 KW to 139 KW) with the new $320,000 chiller and ice storage equipment.
