Donations are coming in to Redeemed Remnants in Luverne more quickly than usual.
Greg Hoogeveen, the thrift store’s manager, said last week the number of donations being dropped off at the Main Street Luverne location was higher than normal because more people are staying home in accordance with the state’s pandemic restrictions.
“It’s made people do it (spring cleaning) now rather than wait for this spring,” Hoogeveen said. “Many are choosing to donate and not do a rummage sale.”
Others are donating items from lost loved ones or from moves to smaller residences.
The result is Redeemed Remnants’ shelves and clothing racks are overflowing.
Hoogeveen said customer traffic slowed in the store due to the coronavirus business closures and people’s fear of COVID-19 exposure.
Redeemed Remnants volunteers clean each item before it reaches the shelves, and clothing is steamed.
Hoogeveen and others working in the store wear masks to protect themselves and customers from possible virus transmission.
“It’s a whole different world now, a different mindset,” Hoogeveen said.
Redeemed Remnants resells good used clothing, housewares and furniture at affordable prices.
The store is operated for Atlas of Rock County, and profits support the nonprofit organization’s support, advocacy and mentoring services.
The store is back to normal business hours and is open Tuesday through Saturday.
