Deputy union settles with county administration

A three-year wage and benefits agreement was accepted Feb. 4 between county commissioners and the deputy sheriffs’ union.
The deputies will receive a 2-percent cost of living adjustment this year followed by 3.25 percent in 2021 and 3.25 percent again in 2022.
A $25 a month health insurance contribution will occur each year.
The county and union negotiators avoided mediation.
As part of the agreement, deputies will use cell phones purchased by the county while on duty.
In other business, commissioners also approved the by-laws for the newly formed nine-person Rock County Economic Development Authority.
At the EDA’s first meeting officers were elected.
David Riphagen of Luverne will serve as president.
Tim Gust, Luverne, is vice president.
Keith Elbers, Hills, is secretary.
Ashley Kurtz, Rock County auditor, is the EDA’s treasurer.
