At their Jan. 5 meeting, Rock County Commissioners postponed a decision on authorizing more than $230,000 for a computer-aided dispatch system for the sheriff’s department.
The CAD system, which would put computers in each of the county’s squad cars, is seen as streamlining officers’ paperwork responsibilities including issuing traffic citations at the scene of the traffic stop.
Sheriff Evan Verbrugge presented a three-, four- and five-year payment schedule.
He brought a payment schedule to the commissioners after he was notified his department did not receive a grant for the in-squad computer system.
Payments under each of the three payment schedules would begin in January 2017.
“They are trying to make it so it is affordable for us to do the CAD,” Verbrugge said
A portion of the CAD equipment and software can be paid through the law enforcement E-911 fund. The rest would need to be authorized from county reserves.
Exact dollar amounts will be presented at a later date.
