Meetings
Beaver Creek Township  will have their monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 14, at the township hall.
Maplewood Cemetery board will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 19.

Rock County spring road restrictions end April 15
The ending date for spring weight road restrictions is Friday, April 15, on all Rock County roadways. Contact Rock County Highway Engineer Mark Sehr at 507-283-5010 with questions.
 
St. Catherine sponsors  forum on sex trafficking in Minnesota April 14
St. Catherine’s and St. Mary’s are partnering to offer a program to address sex trafficking in Minnesota. The event begins at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 14, at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne with a play, “Bottom,” followed by a panel discussion. The program is open and free to the public and is recommended for ages 13+ due to strong language and honest content.
 
Tornado drills planned for Severe Weather Awareness Week
In conjunction with Severe Weather Awareness Week, local officials have scheduled tornado drills for 1:45 p.m. and 6:55 p.m. Thursday, April 14. Families are encouraged to have a discussion to plan for a possible tornado emergency. Guidelines for making an emergency plan can be found on the Minnesota  Department of Public Safety Homeland Security and Emergency Management website at dps.mn.gov/divisions/hsem/weather-awareness-preparedness.
 
Luverne’s Spring Loaded Home, Health and Living Show set for April 16
The Luverne Spring Loaded  Home, Health and Living Show is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at the Blue Mound Banquet Center, the Palace Theatre and at local businesses. The event includes free samples, discounts and demonstrations. Puppeteers at library April 16
The Rock County Community Library will host Jim Oliver with Puppeteer Productions at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 16.
The puppet show, “Bedtime,” is a silly story of how Grandma and Grandpa try to get the grandkids to go to sleep. The event is sponsored by Friends of the Library in recognition of National Library Week and is free and open to the public.
 
Monthly Food Ministry April 21
The Monthly Food Ministry, sponsored by New Life Celebration Church, will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at the Luverne Senior Center. If you’re having trouble putting food on the table, come for fresh produce, bread and meat.
 
Hospice Charity Dinner and Auction tickets available
Tickets are still available for the Annual Hospice Charity Dinner and Auction on Saturday, April 23, at the Blue Mound Banquet Center. Tickets may be purchased in person at the hospice office located at 211 E. Main Street in Luverne, or by calling 507-283-1805.
 
Community Blood Drive set for April 25 at LHS
Luverne High School and Community Blood Bank will host a blood drive Monday, April 25, at Luverne High School. Times are  from 7:30 a.m. to noon and from 1:30-2:30 p.m.
Donors must be at least 17 years old (or 16 with a signed parent consent form). For more information go to www.cbblifeblood.org or call 1-877-877-3070. Walk-ins are welcome.
 
Free tax help available at library
Volunteers through AARP will provide free tax services at the Rock County Community Library in Luverne through April. Call the library, 449-5040, to make an appointment. Appointments are required. Evening appointments are also available. Bring Social Security cards to appointments.
The service is free for any private individual with a simple tax format. It’s not for commercial, farming or investment taxes.
 
Library offers Story Hour and Laptime
Story hour for ages 4-5 continues through May 5 every Thursday morning from 10-11 a.m. Story Hour includes stories, songs, crafts and more.
Laptime for ages birth through 3 with an adult continues through May 6. It meets every Friday from 10:30-11 a.m. Laptime includes stories, songs, crafts and more.
