Rock County SHARE volunteers are preparing for the 2020 gift distribution for local families in need and are seeking applications from families and individuals who are interested in receiving from the program.
SHARE (Sharing Hearts Are Reaching Everyone) is in its 36th year of collecting donations and distributing gifts of food, clothing and toys to Rock County residents during the holiday season.
“The Rock County SHARE program has made a big impact on our community for many years,” said board member Amy Chapa.
She’s been volunteering for two years and now serves on the board with Monica Facile, Jennifer Pick and Casey Elbers, along with board president Molly Golla.
Chapa said the pandemic has created challenges for volunteers in getting resources into the hands of those who need them.
“We want to keep everyone in our community safe, but also recognize that there may be a greater need in our community than usual this year as well,” Chapa said.
“So we are hosting a drive-through pickup to keep it as safe as possible for recipients and volunteers.”
SHARE volunteers will distribute groceries, clothing and toys to Rock County residents in need from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, at the Luverne National Guard Armory (309 S. Freeman Avenue).
Applications can be picked up from Southwestern Health and Human Services, Family Services, Sunshine, Centennial Apartments and the Rock County Community Library.
The applications gather information about household members, their clothing sizes and particular needs.
Applications need to be turned in by Wednesday, Nov. 30.
SHARE was incorporated in 1988 and is a non-profit organization. All funds and gifts to SHARE are received through voluntary donations which are tax-deductible.
In 2019 SHARE provided 162 families, consisting of 219 children and 288 adults, a total of 507 individuals, with food, clothing and toys.
“SHARE has been a successful program due to the continued generosity of individuals, organizations, churches and businesses in Rock County,” Golla said.
The Luverne National Guard Armory has donated use of their facility for collection and distribution.
SHARE is not accepting donations of used items. To support the program, mail donations to SHARE, P.O. Box 792, Luverne, MN 56156. For more information contact Molly at 507-227-9282.
