Saints saddle tennis team with first BSC loss
The Cardinals dropped their first conference match of the season when they fell by one point to the Saints April 28 in Luverne.
The Saints won three of four singles matches and prevailed at second doubles to best LHS.
“It was a really close match. We just couldn’t find a place to win the fourth point,” said coach Antoine.
Dalton Schoeneman and Chris Jelken posted a 7-6 (7-2 in the tiebreaker), 6-1 win over Colin Hoppe and Cole Skow at first doubles, while Tanner Baustian and Isaac Gillette rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Thor Henderson and Dan Coleman at No. 3.
Jacob Jarchow posted Luverne’s win in singles by downing Brandon Hjelmer 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3.
St. James received singles wins from John Foss (6-4, 6-2 over Erik Wohnoutka at No. 1), Sandin Skow 6-2, 6-4 over Cory Stroeh at No. 2) and Brandon Johnson (6-0, 6-2 over Trey Baustian at No. 4).
Aaron Pluym and Cameron Giese saddled Mark Robinson and Cade VerSteeg with 6-3 and 6-1 setbacks at second doubles.
