Luverne's five-match streak ends in Windom

By John RittenhouseA 5-0 start to the 2005 golf season for the Luverne girls came to an end when the Cardinals lost matches on consecutive days early this week.Luverne topped Red Rock Central by 33 strokes in Lamberton for its fifth straight win Thursday. The Cards lost a six-stroke decision in Windom Monday before falling by nine strokes to Marshall in Luverne Tuesday.The 5-2 Cards play in Redwood Valley today and in Westbrook Tuesday.Marshall 179,Luverne 188Defending conference champion Marshall proved to be too much for the Cardinals to handle when the teams squared off at the Luverne Country Club Tuesday.With Abbie Lecy shooting a five-over-par 41 to lead the way, the Tigers topped LHS by nine shots.Alyssa Klein led Luverne with a 43.Nikki Van Dyk and Brittany Boeve shot 48s for the Cards, while Jessica Klein added a 49 to the team effort. Kaia Nowatzki and Krista Van Dyk shot 56- and 58-stroke rounds without influencing the scoring.Windom 185,Luverne 191Luverne’s five-match winning streak to open the season came to an end with a six-stroke loss in Windom Monday.Windom’s Tara and Kacey Christensen and Sabrina Bollin all carded 46s for the Eagles, who improved to 2-0 in league play.Luverne’s Boeve shot a nine-over-par 45 to lead all players.Alyssa Klein and Nikki Van Dyk turned in 47s for LHS, while Jessica Klein added a 52 to the team tally.Lindsey Severtson and Kayla Tweet shot 58- and 61-stroke rounds without contributing to the team effort.Luverne 201, RRC 234The Cardinal girls disposed of their fifth straight opponent when they coasted to a 33-stroke win over the Falcons in Lamberton Thursday.Luverne’s Alyssa Klein and Boeve both carded 48s to lead all players at the meet.Jessica Klein and Van Dyk contributed 51- and 54-stroke rounds to the team effort. Severtson and Tweet shot 57- and 59-stroke loops without contributing to the team effort.Paige Greenfield and Courtney Conyers led RRC with 53s.
