Open seat announced in North Ward

To the Editor:
In a couple of months, from May 17 to May 31, the filing period opens for individuals to announce their candidacy for local government positions. I will not be filing again. This is the last year of my term, and after serving on the council for 12 years it’s time for me to step down.
Serving on city council has been a very rewarding and gratifying experience. The current mayor and council as well as the city staff are very progressively minded, and residents have seen some wonderful improvements over the years.
The contributions by LIFT in working with local government have brought about a new branding and many excellent additions and improvements to our city. The projects are ongoing, and it’s an exciting time for the city of Luverne.
I encourage residents who buy into the progressive approach to consider filing to fill the North Ward council seat that I will vacate. I also encourage residents to step forward to offer to serve on subcommittees of interest to them. Let Mayor Pat Baustian know of your interest.
To file for office, contact City Clerk Jessica Mead at City Hall. She will provide you with the necessary information and answer your questions about the process.
Thank you to the community for the opportunity you’ve given me to serve on city council.
Esther Frakes
North Ward Alderman
