Letter to the Editor

Daughter of immigrant family grateful for Luverne, U.S.

To the Editor:

I received this text from Jackie (Thinh) Ta last week. Luverne hosted this family of 10 children from Viet Nam. It certainly is appropriate for this Memorial Day time.

“This is the highlight of the year for me! It is my best Mother’s Day weekend. It is awesome that I’ve been in the USA for 42 years. I am looking back and feel very grateful that I and my children are here in America and thriving in this beautiful country which is the only country that has given me the opportunity to be who I want to be and to grow and thrive. Also, I am always thinking of you, special you and very grateful to get your help and others when I first came to Luverne.”

How wonderful to have people immigrate into this country who assimilate into our society, honor its laws and decrees, and take advantage of the opportunities it offers. Jackie is an electrical engineer and her oldest son, John, is a major in the U.S. Army. One of the Ta children was killed in a car accident and the parents have passed, but the remainder of the large family have achieved similar success.
