MINUTES OF THE SCHOOL BOARD MEETING OF
INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 2184,
ROCK COUNTY, LUVERNE, MINNESOTA.
A regular meeting of the Board of Education, ISD #2184, was held in the Middle/High School Media Center on November 26, 2019, at 7:00 p.m.
The following members were present: Katie Baustian, Jodi Bosch, Colleen Deutsch, Tim Jarchow, Shelley Sandbulte, and Reva Sehr. Absent: Eric Hartman. Also present: Craig Oftedahl, Marlene Mann, Jim Gilman and Brenda Parsley with Conway Deuth and Schmiessing, Jason Phelps, Jordan Winter, Becky Rahm, Caroline Thorson, Jennifer Engesser, Lori Oechsle, April Wallace, Ann Robinson, Peter Janiszeski, Jason Berghorst, Katie Mostad, Gavin Folkestad, Tom Rops, Aaron Perkins, Marie Atkinson-Smeins, and Ann Robinson.
Chairperson Bosch called the meeting to order with the Pledge of Allegiance. Motion made by Deutsch, second by Sehr, to approve the agenda as presented. Motion unanimously carried.
Administrative reports were given.
Jim Gilman and Brenda Parsley, representing Conway Deuth & Schmiessing, LLP, presented the fiscal year 2018-2019 audit report. They reviewed enrollments, fund balances, and recommendations from their management letter. Motion made by Deutsch, second by Jarchow, to approve the report as presented. Motion unanimously carried.
Superintendent Oftedahl gave a construction update.
Business Manager Marlene Mann reviewed the school district bills. Motion made by Baustian, second by Sandbulte, to approve payment of the school district bills in the amount of $1,282,706.40 and the student activity bills in the amount of $9,240.56. There were no construction bills to present. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Deutsch, second by Jarchow, to receive the Student Activity Report showing the balances as of October 31, 2019. Motion unanimously carried.
Business Manager Marlene Mann reviewed the District Revenues and Expenditures Report. This report is required to be published by November 30. Motion made by Deutsch, second by Baustian, to approve the report as presented. Motion unanimously carried.
Superintendent Oftedahl presented Policy 535 – Service Animals in Schools. The second reading and approval will be at the December 19 school board meeting.
Motion by Baustian, second by Sehr, to approve the Student Teaching Affiliation Agreement with the University of Minnesota. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion by Jarchow, second by Deutsch, to give approval for students to participate in competition and to fundraise for the FIRST Robotics program. Teacher Aaron Perkins will be the advisor. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Sehr, second by Deutsch, to accept the resignation of Caitlin Altman, Paraprofessional, effective November 8, 2019. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Baustian, second by Sehr, to approve the hiring of Cassie Snyders as Paraprofessional effective November 11, 2019. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Deutsch, second by Sandbulte, to approve the hiring of Amy Hamann as Paraprofessional effective November 18, 2019. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Deutsch, second by Baustian, to approve the hiring of Danielle Kneip as long-term substitute elementary teacher for Dana Wolf from approximately December 26, 2019, through April 27, 2020. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Sehr, second by Jarchow, to approve Joel Evans as volunteer wrestling coach. Motion unanimously carried. Motion made by Sandbulte, second by Deutsch, to approve Lance Ripka as volunteer wrestling coach. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Baustian, second by Jarchow, to approve the hiring of Brayden Jacobsma as 7th grade boys basketball coach. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Sandbulte, second by Deutsch, to approve the hiring of Chris DenHoed as varsity assistant boys hockey coach. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Sandbulte, second by Sehr, to approve Kaden Ericson as volunteer boys hockey coach. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Sehr, second by Baustian, to approve Cody Gehrke as volunteer gymnastics coach. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Deutsch, second by Sehr, to approve a request from Amanda Fields, elementary teacher, for a medical leave of absence for four weeks beginning on January 4, 2020. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Sandbulte, second by Jarchow, to approve a request from Amy VonHoltum, elementary teacher, for maternity leave for seven weeks beginning approximately March 1, 2020. Motion unanimously carried.
The School Board members completed the ballots for the 2019 Service Cooperative Board of Directors Election.
There were no committee reports given. The upcoming meeting dates were reviewed. Member Deutsch noted that Special Olympics State Bowling competition was held.
Motion made by Baustian, second by Deutsch, to adjourn the meeting. Motion unanimously carried.
