MINUTES OF THE SCHOOL BOARD MEETING OF 

INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 2184, 

ROCK COUNTY, LUVERNE, MINNESOTA.  

A regular meeting of the Board of Education, ISD #2184, was held in the District Office via Zoom on August 5, 2020, at 5:30 p.m.

The following members were present: Katie Baustian, Jodi Bosch, Colleen Deutsch, Eric Hartman, Tim Jarchow, Shelley Sandbulte and Reva Sehr.  Also present: Craig Oftedahl, Marlene Mann, Alicia Reker, Amy Sahly, Amy VonHoltum, Austin Maxwell, Luci Rofshus, Kari Lais, Becky Rahm, Lloyd Hemme, Gladys Hemme, Shelley Krueger, Katie Mostad, April Wallace, and Mavis Fodness – Rock County Star Herald.

Chairperson Bosch called the meeting to order with the Pledge of Allegiance.  Motion made by Deutsch, second by Baustian, to approve the agenda as presented.  Those who voted in favor:  Baustian, Jarchow, Hartman, Deutsch, Sehr, Sandbulte, and Bosch. Those who voted against: none. Motion carried.

The final copy of the Employee Handbook was presented for approval. Motion made by Baustian, second by Jarchow, to approve the handbook as presented. Those who voted in favor: Baustian, Jarchow, Hartman, Deutsch, Sehr, Sandbulte, and Bosch. Those who voted against: none. Motion carried.

Superintendent Oftedahl presented the following information: Daily Operations Information for In Person Learning, Hybrid Learning, and Distance Learning. He also presented the Return to Luverne Plan for the Luverne School District. This plan includes a review of the 4 models of learning – In Person, Hybrid, Distance, and Online Academy. He reviewed information from the Minnesota Department of Education regarding how to determine which learning model the School District can utilize this fall. He reviewed the safety protocols that would be followed. He shared the following timeline:

August 6 – Learning Plan Shared with Parents and Community

August 6 – Family Intent Survey Developed and Sent Out

August 17 – Student Schedules Made Available to Parents

August 24 – Latest Possible Date for Determining Model to Start the Year

August 31 – Staff In-Service Begins

September 8 – First Student Day

Superintendent Oftedahl also presented information from Edmentum for the Online Academy model that families may choose. Discussion was held.

Motion made by Jarchow, second by Deutsch, to approve the Return to Learn Plan that was presented and the timelines that have been provided. Those who voted in favor: Baustian, Jarchow, Hartman, Deutsch, Sehr, Sandbulte, and Bosch. Those who voted against: none. Motion carried.

The upcoming meeting dates were reviewed. Motion made by Deutsch, second by Jarchow, to adjourn the meeting. Those who voted in favor: Baustian, Jarchow, Hartman, Deutsch, Sehr, Sandbulte, and Bosch. Those who voted against: none. Motion carried.
