“Created to Be” is the theme for the summer program at Shetek Lutheran Ministries for summer 2024. Our theme verse is Psalm 139:14 “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well.”  In our Bible studies each day we will be looking at passages that show God’s love for us and how He knows us intimately.  The verse before our theme verse, Psalm 139:13 says,For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” Even before we are born, God knows us and loves us.  Every one of us is a unique person created by God, with differing skills, abilities and gifts.  We’ll look at how we can use our varying gifts to serve God and to serve our neighbors.

Shetek has programs for all ages.  One of our programs for younger kids is ABC Camp. Children going into first, second or third grade can invite a favorite adult (usually Mom or Dad) to come with them for 24 hours of camp.  ABC Camp starts Sunday afternoon and wraps up Monday afternoon. It’s a wonderful opportunity for children and parents to get a taste of what camp is like. ABC campers stay in our very comfortable Retreat Center with hotel style rooms, with your own bathroom/shower, etc.

We also offer mini-camps for grades 2-9.  These sessions run from Sunday afternoon to Tuesday after lunch.  If you’re not sure about staying for a full week, these are great opportunities to see what camp is like. You would stay in a cabin with your age group and be with one of our young adult counselors.

Shetek offers full week camp sessions (Sunday afternoon to Friday afternoon) for grades 4-9 on site. You are part of a cabin group for the week and get to enjoy all that camp has to offer.

For 10-12 graders, we offer a couple options.  One option is a high adventure canoe trip in Wisconsin. We partner with another camp and bring campers to Camp Amnicon for a week of canoeing and camping on the Flambeau River, which includes canoeing some rapids.  Shetek also offers our Counselor In Training (CIT) program which develops leadership skills for high schoolers.  You would attend a week at the beginning of the summer and then are able to come back during the summer and work with one of our counselors in a cabin, helping to lead the cabin group.

A very popular program is our Grandparent/Grandchild Camp (GPGC).  These sessions run from Wednesday afternoon to Friday after lunch. You have your own room in our Retreat Center. What a great opportunity to spend time together learning more about God and your faith.

Shetek began in 1947 on Keeley Island in Lake Shetek and we’re excited to offer these programs and more throughout the year.  Check out everything on our website – www.shetek.org or give us a call for more information 507-763-3567.
