H-BC finishes track season

The Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots were represented by five athletes competing in three events at the Minnesota Class A State Track and Field Championships.
The annual event showcasing the top high school track and field athletes from around Minnesota was staged at Hamline University in St. Paul June 6 and 7.
At the Section 3A meet in Luverne May 30, H-BC qualified runners for the state meet in the girls’ 100-meter dash, the boys’ 100-meter dash and the girls’ 800-meter relay.
The 800-meter relay team was comprised of senior Madison Spath, senior Sidney Fick, seventh-grader Layla Deelstra and sophomore Taryan Rauk.
The Patriot foursome finished seventh in their prelim heat with a time of 1:49.47 and did not qualify for finals.
In the girls’ 100-meter dash prelims, Deelstra recorded a time of 13.55 seconds.
Tyson Bork, who won the Section 3A title in the boys’ 100-meter dash, competed in the same event at the state meet.
Bork ran a prelim time of 11:57 and just missed qualifying for finals by two-hundredths of a second.
