Dragons recover from RRC setback

By John RittenhouseThe Adrian baseball team upped its Red Rock Conference record to 3-1 by winning two of three league games staged since last Thursday.The Dragons rolled to a 10-run home win over Murray County Central Thursday before losing a three-run decision to Red Rock Central-Westbrook-Walnut Grove in Lamberton Saturday. Adrian defeated Southwest United by seven runs in Adrian Tuesday.Adrian, 4-3 overall, plays three games at the Windom Tournament Friday and Saturday. The Dragons host Edgerton Tuesday.Adrian 9, SWU 2The Dragons plated eight runs late in the game to best Southwest United by seven in Adrian Tuesday.The game was knotted at one after three and one-half innings of play, but Adrian scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning before icing the contest with a five-run sixth inning.Levi Bullerman, who led AHS with three hits and three RBIs, slapped a two-run single after Cody Kontz drew a bases-loaded walk to give the hosts a 4-1 lead in the fourth.The Dragons scored three runs in a five-run sixth with the help of two SWU errors. Glen Kruger added an RBI single to the rally. Bullerman picked up an RBI with a fielder’s choice.Kruger, who had two hits along with teammates John Archer and Alex Suedkamp, singled home Adrian’s first run in the first inning.David Hoffer went the distance on the mound to get the win. He surrendered nine hits and two walks.RRC-W-WG 9,Adrian 6The Dragons fell from the unbeaten ranks in conference play when they lost a three-run game in Lamberton Saturday.RRC-W-WG exploded for eight runs in the home half of the second inning and never lost control of the contest.Adrian did close the margin to three runs at two different times in the game. The Dragons, however, were unable to climb out of the early hole they found themselves in.With Hoffer slapping an RBI single and Bullerman delivering a two-run single in the top of the third, AHS cut RRC-W-WG’s lead in half at 8-4.Brandon Diekmann drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth inning to make it 8-5, but the hosts scored once in the bottom half of the same inning to lead by four.Kruger’s RBI single for AHS in the sixth capped the scoring.Diekmann started the game on the mound and took the loss after allowing eight runs, eight hits and hitting two batters in one and one-third innings. Kontz pitched five and two-thirds innings of one-run, three-hit relief. He recorded seven strikeouts.Adrian 11, MCC 1The Dragons dominated play during Thursday’s five-inning home game against the Rebels.After allowing MCC to score the game’s first run in the top of the third inning, the Dragons scored 11 straight counters to win the game by the 10-run rule in the bottom of the fifth.The Dragons moved in front to stay when Diekmann, who recorded three RBIs with two hits, delivered a two-run single in the bottom of the third.Bullerman, who led AHS with four hits and five RBIs, slapped a three-run triple to highlight a six-run fourth inning that ended with the Dragons sporting an 8-1 lead. Kruger added a run-scoring single to the rally, while Kontz and Diekmann drew bases-loaded walks during the inning.Alex Suedkamp singled home a run before Bullerman ended the game with a two-run double in the bottom of the fifth.Hoffer pitched five innings of one-run, four-hit ball to pick up the win. He recorded seven strikeouts without walking a batter.Will Lutmer added three
