Donatello's Cafe and Deli opens today in Hills

By Lexi MooreDonatello’s Café and Deli in Hills opened this morning at 6 a.m. for its first day of business.Residents in the area have been waiting for the opening of the new restaurant since owners Eugene and Diane Immediato purchased the building from the City of Hills in December 2003 for $8,000.Eugene admits that the menu during the first weeks of business will be scaled back while the couple works out the details of operating the cafe, but he ensures home-style Italian cooking will eventually be offered."We will just be getting our feet on the ground," Eugene said Tuesday."There will be food available on Thursday, but it will take some time to get the full menu prepared."Donatello’s will open daily at 6 a.m. and stay open through the evening to serve dinner and appetizers. The initial limited menu features breakfast items, lunch items, dinner meals and a variety of appetizers. The lunch menu will give Hills residents a chance to pick up fresh sandwiches without leaving town. Appetizers, available throughout most of the day, will include chicken fingers, buffalo wings, "poppers" and cheese balls, to name a few.The couple is looking forward to meeting residents and greeting out-of-towners during Saturday’s H-BC Fellowship of Christian Athletes Silent & Live Auction at the Hills Legion Hall and Friendship Days celebration.
