Jan. 16 Food Ministry

The monthly Food Ministry by New Life Celebration Church will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at the Luverne Senior Center. If you’re having trouble putting food on the table, come for fresh produce, bread and meat. Children will be asked to wait outside.

 

Donate at ‘Heroes Behind the Badges’ blood drive

The public is encouraged to donate blood in honor of local heroes and to save lives at the “Heroes Behind the Badges” blood drive from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, at the Sanford Hospital in Luverne. Just for Kix dance show set for Jan. 18

Support your favorite Luverne Area Just For Kix dancer by attending the winter show starting at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at the Palace Theatre in Luverne.

 

Needed: Chili cook-off contestants

Youth groups from Grace Lutheran Church of Luverne and Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Hills will host a Rock County Championship Chili Cook-off from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. Feb. 9, at Sharkee's in Luverne. Chili chefs from throughout the community are encouraged to enter the fun competition, which will include prizes for a variety of categories and a People's Choice Award. Contestants may donate their tips to any area youth group.

Community Ed

Needed: Five Women’s Volleyball teams to register by Jan. 14 in order to organize league play here in Luverne. Fee is $150/team.

This Snowman Treats craft class on Jan. 16 involves using food, which will be a hit with your child in grades K-6! Fee is $10.

Here is your motivation to set up some new healthy goals! Register your team of three for Around the World in 40 Days Wellness Challenge by Jan. 20. Fee is $20/person.

Register by Jan. 24 for the chartered bus trip for the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre to see “Fiddler on the Roof.” The trip will be on Feb. 22. Fee is $93/person to cover the bus ride, show ticket and lunch at Chanhassen.

Luverne Community Education will sponsor an invitational basketball tournament for boys’ and girls’ fifth- and sixth-grade basketball teams Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014. The format will be pool play with six courts in one building. Interested teams can visit isd2184.net to register under the “Community Education” link, or call (507) 283-4724 for assistance. Entry is $90 and must accompany registration form.

Join early childhood teachers at ECFE classes where there is something for everyone (birth to 5). Classes are designed to strengthen families by helping provide the best possible environment for their child's learning and growth.

Luverne School students 8th grade and older may register to take driver education during February/March. Fee is $280, which is due at the time of registration. Two more class sessions will be offered in June.

All 3-year-old children living in Minnesota will do an Early Childhood Screening as they near age 4. If your child is nearly 4 years old or already 4 and has not been screened, call 283-4724 to arrange an appointment.

 

Pioneer Clubs meet at American Reformed Church

Pioneer Clubs meet weekly from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evenings for children in kindergarten through sixth grade.
