Hills-Beaver Creek School District welcomes a new staff member at the start of the school year. Sarah Wells will teach fourth grade at the elementary school in Beaver Creek.
Wells (her maiden name is Cribbs) grew up in Valley Springs, S.D. She earned her elementary education degree from Augustana College in Sioux Falls.
“I became a teacher because of my love for children and my passion for learning,” Wells said.
Teaching is Wells’ second career. She has worked as a nurse at the Orthopedic Institute in Sioux Falls since 2004.
She started her college career at the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, S.D., in the elementary education field before life took her into the nursing field. She followed in the footsteps of her mother, Mary Jacobson, who is a 1958 graduate of Hills-Beaver Creek.
Wells later had the chance to return to school to finish her degree in elementary education.
At H-BC Elementary School, Wells said she is looking forward to meeting all her students and their families and having an academically successful and fun year.
“There is so much to look forward to in regard to a new school year,” she said. “I love to see my students become excited about what they are learning.”
In addition to teaching, Wells spends time with her husband, Don, and their two daughters, Alea 6, and Alyson, 4. The family resides in Brandon.
She lists kayaking, boating, geocaching and gardening among her hobbies.
“We love to be outdoors,” she said. “We also have two dogs and a cat that like to keep us busy.”
Classes start Monday in the H-BC district, and families can find first-day-of-school information online at hbcpatriots.com.
