Steen throws anniversary party

Parking in Steen on Saturday was at a premium. People came and went throughout the day to help the town celebrate its 125th anniversary. A highlight for many was the Otter Creek Pullers tractor pull.  The morning began with a pancake breakfast at Steen City Hall. Families and friends ate together and chatted over coffee while enjoying the sites of “old Steen.” On display were old signs, the water containers from the old school, old photographs and newspapers and even the old post office floor (which was for sale).

After breakfast the group moved on to the tractor pull. This event was organized by the Otter Creek Pullers and welcomed tractor models from 1960 and earlier. They had 90 pulls throughout the event with winners named in each class.

During the afternoon the activities moved back to Main Street for a car show. The show was open to all vehicles and that is was showed up. There were tractors, motorcycles, tricycles, new cars, old cars and even an interesting car/motorcycle hybrid. Those attending the event were treated to juice and hotdogs and were given an opportunity to choose a “People’s Choice” winner. That title went to Greg VanBatavia.

The day ended with an “Old Timers’ Softball Game” under the big lights. The game welcomed back former Steen softball players, both ladies and the fellas. The teams grabbed a few youngsters as well and set out for a great game that required an extra inning to break the tie score. In the end, the “home” team won. All of the participants are pictured above.
