Jane Bosch (left) is pictured with the restored 1955 Farmall 400 tractor and five of her six children, Lois Leenderts, Tim Baker, Eunice Roozenboom, Glenda Sandstede and Alan Baker. Her daughter Laura could not make it home for the surprise.
Friday night Jane Bosch was surprised by her children.
They had secretly restored the first tractor she and her first husband, Albert, had ever purchased.
The couple purchased the 1955 Farmall 400 tractor in 1957. It was their first brand new tractor. Many years later the tractor was retired to storage on the family farm, where it remained until just three weeks ago.
Albert died in 1991, and many years later Jane married John Bosch. The couple live in Steen and are actively involved with the lives of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
That is when her son Tim Baker and nephew Greg Leenderts got the idea to restore the tractor in time for the Steen 125th Anniversary tractor pull.
They teamed up with son Alan and grandson-in-law Cory Meinerts to restore it back to its like-new condition.
The tractor had not been started for seven years, but within two hours of work, the group had it running again. They gave it a paint job, new decals, tires and did some repairs — all in time for Friday night’s unveiling.
