Injury takes Patriots out of state race

The Hills-Beaver Creek High School track program sent a boys’ 4x100-meter relay team to state competition over the weekend, and an individual competitor qualified.

The relay team members had a disappointing day Saturday on the track of Hamline University, St. Paul, when their race ended with an injury.

On Friday Dalton Bass, Dylan Gehrke, Dirk Thone and Tate Bork placed sixth in the prelims with a time of 44.89.

During Saturday’s run Tate Bork pulled a hamstring while anchoring that race and was unable to finish for the team.

Paige Leuthold qualified for state in the triple jump but decided not to compete because of a previously planned church mission trip.

Five seniors graduate from the HBC track team this year, mostly sprinters.

The seniors leave big shoes to fill next year, according to coach Rex Metzger.
