Spring weight restrictions ended

Spring weight road restrictions will end today, Thursday, May 9, on all Rock County roadways. Call Rock County Engineer Mark Sehr at (507) 283-5010 with questions.


Free movie May 9

Free movies will be offered at the Palace Theatre on the second Thursday of the month by Luverne’s New Life Celebration Church. A family-friendly movie will be shown at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 9. Movie-goers will have the opportunity to discuss the movie after the show.


Adrian High School to host spring show May 10

Adrian High School students in textile, art and industrial tech classes will host a spring show from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 10, at the high school in Adrian. Students will showcase their work in quilting and design projects, clay and drawing, and woods and metals creations. Cold Stone ice cream will be available for purchase.


Luverne MS/HS Choir Pops Concert set for May 10

The public is encouraged to attend the Luverne Middle School and High School Pops Concert featuring the 6-12 grade choirs. The evening is titled, "Broadway Bound," and will feature music from Broadway musicals. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 10, in the elementary gym. Cost for the concert is $6 for adults and $4 for students. Activity passes will also be accepted.


Relay for Life 5K fun run/walk is May 11

Come out for the fourth Annual Rock County Relay for Life 5K Fun Run/Walk on Saturday, May 11, at Luverne Area Aquatics and Fitness. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and the run/walk starts at 8:30 a.m. Call Lisa at 283-4463 to preregister. There is a $20 registration fee with proceeds going to Relay for Life. Door prizes will be drawn at the end of the run/walk.


‘Be a Boy Scout for a day!’ set for May 11

All boys finishing the fifth grade and older are invited to "Be a Boy Scout for a Day." BSA Troop #582 of Brandon/Valley Springs is hosting an open house at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at the Big Sioux Recreation Area in Brandon. This is a free event and a chance to find out what it is like to be a Boy Scout. Questions may be emailed to or by calling (605) 351-6668.  


‘Plan Ahead and Plan Well’ May 15

Hannon Ford, certified elder law attorney, will discuss estate planning and elder legal issues from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, at The Oaks dining room in Luverne (south of Mary Jane Brown Home). Social time and refreshments will follow the presentation. Respite care can be arranged by calling RSVP at 283-5064.


Food Ministry at Senior Center May 16

The monthly Food Ministry, sponsored by New Life Celebration Church, will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at the Luverne Senior Center. If you are having trouble putting food on the table, come for fresh produce, bread and meat. Children will be asked to wait outside.


Reserve Optimist sandbox refills now

The annual Luverne Optimist Club sandbox fill will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, May 20. Call Audrey, 283-2018, to reserve sand.


Sign up for Steen Reformed’s ‘Kingdom Rock!’ VBS

Get everything you need to catch a fish at School of Fish with Mike Frisch May 17. Every child that attends will leave with a rod, reel, tackle pack, T-shirt, resource book and a snack bag. Students must have completed grades 4-6 this year. Fee is $18.

Learn how to grow, dry, store and use herbs at Herb Gardens Today on May 18 at Harmony Garden. Bring a container to start your own herb garden. Fee is $5 for the class, plus the cost of plants. (May purchase container at class, too.) 

Parents and their children ages 0-5 are invited to informal Play Dates at Luverne City Park from 10-11 a.m. Wednesdays, May 22-Aug.7. There is no fee, but registration is requested. For  more information contact Lisa at 283-9165.
