Aftermath ...
First a thick layer of ice, then several inches of snow

Residents around the region were shaking their heads in disbelief Thursday morning at the snow that heaped on top of the ice.

Trees and powerlines that were already damaged by ice were covered in nearly 8 inches of snow overnight Wednesday into Thursday.

Many rural communities were still without power (since Tuesday night) and some comnunities were without phone service.
