The Hills-Beaver Creek track squads made their 2013 debuts during Tuesday’s Class B version of the Dan Lennon Invitational at the Dakota Dome in Vermillion, S.D.
A select group of Patriots stacked up well against stiff competition on hand for the meet by turning in eight top-15 performances during the event.
H-BC’s boys finished 14th or better in four events. The girls placed 15th or better in four events.
Tate Bork produced the best effort for the boys by placing third in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.35.
The Patriots also recorded a strong finish in the 800-meter relay by placing sixth in 1:41.41.
Dalton Bass, Dylan Gehrke, Braden Ellingson and Dirk Thone formed the team.
Gehrke, Ellingson, Thone and Justin Kerkhove-Brandt placed 13th in the sprint-medley relay with a 4:04.65 effort.
Carey Taubert tied for 14th place in the high jump after clearing 5-4.
Paige Leuthold registered the top finish for the Patriot girls by placing 11th in the triple jump with a distance of 29-8.
Jenna Wilgenburg finished 13th in the 400-meter dash in 1:08.97.
H-BC’s 800-meter relay consisting of Leuthold, Amanda Crawford, Wilgenburg and Haley Van Wyhe placed 14th in 2:02.26.
Leuthold, Kayla Thone, Van Wyhe and Wilgenburg joined forces to place 15th in the sprint-medley relay with a time of 4:54.71.
The Patriots compete in Luverne Tuesday.
