Patriot girls fall in Westbrook

The Hills-Beaver Creek girls’ basketball team slipped to 6-14 for the season after dropping a game in Westbrook Friday.

Taking on Westbrook-Walnut Grove in a Red Rock Conference clash, the Patriots fell behind early and couldn’t recover during what ended as a 58-44 setback.

The home-standing Chargers controlled play early as they opened a 35-16 halftime lead.

H-BC battled back to outscore W-WG 28-23 in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to climb back into contention.

“We had way too many turnovers in the first half. It’s tough to score when you don’t have the ball,” said H-BC coach Jason Blosmo.

“We settled down a little bit more in the second half. By then it was too little, too late.”

Paige Leuthold led the Patriots with 20 points and four steals.

Taylor Wingert grabbed nine rebounds, while Haley Van Wyhe passed for four assists.

H-BC hosts Ellsworth Thursday.
