Library winter reading program underway
The Rock County Library invites anyone 16 years old and older to participate in the adult winter reading program, “Hot Reads for Cold Nights.” The reading program is already underway but the signup continues.
Participants who read 12 titles before March 31 will be eligible for a prize. Audio books and e-books are included. Stop by the library to sign up.
Pork Producers banquet set for Jan. 21 at Sharkee’s
The Rock County Pork Producers’ annual banquet will be Monday, Jan. 21, at Sharkee’s in Luverne. Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m. and entertainment by Jared Sherlock.
Tickets are $10 at the door, and the public is welcome.
Habitat for Humanity to host contractor meeting Jan. 23
SWMN Habitat for Humanity will host a contractor meeting Wednesday, Jan. 23, at the former Skippers Pub, 111 E. Main Street, Luverne. A meal and beverages will be provided, courtesy of SWMN Habitat for Humanity, beginning at 5:00 p.m. and the meeting at 5:15 p.m.
Information about Habitat home builds, the family’s commitment, volunteers and “sweat equity,” the build time-line and sharing of the finalized house plans will be discussed.
Relay for Life planning meeting Jan. 23
The Relay for Life planning meeting will be at noon Wednesday, Jan. 23, at the Pizza Ranch. Anyone interested in helping with the 2013 Relay for Life is welcome. This year’s Relay will be from 5:30 p.m. to midnight Friday, June 14.
Woodcarvers host demonstrations at Carnegie
The Blue Mound Woodcarvers are on display at the Carnegie Cultural Center for the month of January. Carnegie hours are noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
Join the Woodcarvers from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 24, for the final demonstration at the Carnegie.

Joint Religious Coalition to be at St. Catherine Jan. 28
The Joint Religious Coalition will be in Luverne from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at St. Catherine Catholic Church, 203 East Brown Street.
JRLC is an interfaith, non-profit representing Jewish, Muslim, Christian and Christian Catholic religions through political advocacy. Topics to be considered include the reality of human trafficking, relevant legislation and how we as faith communities can respond.
American Reformed Men’s Bible study starts Feb. 1

Rock Nobles Cattlemen’s Banquet set for Feb. 4
The Rock Nobles Cattlemen’s banquet will be Monday, Feb. 4, at the Blue Mound Banquet Center in Luverne. The evening will begin with social hour at 6 p.m. and the meal at 6:30 p.m. Entertainment will be C. Willi Myles. Tickets are $15 and attendees will be registered for a grand prize beef drawing.

Free tax help available at library
Volunteers through AARP will provide free tax services at the Rock County Community Library in Luverne starting Feb. 11. Call the library, 283-5040, to make an appointment. The service is free for any private individual with a simple tax format. It’s not for commercial, farming or investment taxes.

Parents and children ages 3-5 may ride the school bus to the Children’s Museum, Brookings, S.D., on Jan. 22. Fee is $9/person.
Parents and their child ages 1-2 will read the book “Time for Bed” at Come Read with Me class at 6 p.m. Jan. 24. Registration is required. Fee is $9/child.
Register for Men’s Basketball by Jan. 23. League will meet Wednesday evenings for 12 weeks. Fee is $25 paid ahead.
A new scarf and hat can be made in a little over two weeks by taking Easy Crochet Project on Thursday, Jan. 24, and Feb. 7. Fee is $13.
