The Hills-Beaver Creek boys posted their third win of the basketball season Thursday in Adrian.

Taking on the Dragons in a Red Rock Conference clash, H-BC rolled to a 41-29 halftime lead and withstood some challenges offered by the Dragons to secure a 70-61 victory.

The Patriots got off to a fast start by scoring the game’s first five points on the way to building a 14-3 lead when Dalton Bass converted a field goal at the 12:09 mark of the opening stanza.

Adrian fought back to trim the difference to four points (32-28) with 1:07 remaining in the opening stanza.

H-BC rallied late with a 9-1 run ending with a three-point shot from Jeff Sandbulte before the horn sounded to sport a 12-point lead (41-29) at the intermission.

Adrian pulled to within five points (43-38) 2:44 into the second half before H-BC gained control of the game with an extended run.

The Patriots outscored the Dragons 21-9 over the next 8:06 and led 64-47 when Bass converted a layup with 7:10 left to play.

Adrian trimmed the difference to eight points (64-56) with 3:32 remaining, but H-BC outscored the Dragons 6-5 the rest of the way to prevail by nine points.

Jon Gallagher (22 points and 10 rebounds) and Sandbulte (20 points and four steals) paced H-BC offensively.

Carey Taubert (seven rebounds and four steals), Bass (four steals and three assists) and Dylan Gehrke (three assists) made contributions to the winning effort.
