Patriot boys pick up first win
The Hills-Beaver Creek boys’ basketball team broke into the win column by upending Southwest United 77-62 in Hills.
The Patriots got off to a good start by opening a 44-29 halftime advantage.
Both teams netted 33 points in the game’s second half, leaving the Patriots with a 15-point victory.
Jeff Sandbulte (26 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and three steals) and Dylan Gehkre (16 points and four steals) led the Patriots to victory.
Justin Kerkhove-Brandt (13 points), Braden Ellingson (10 rebounds) and Jon Gallagher (four blocked shots) made key contributions for the 1-2 Patriots.
Dragons lose lead, game to MCC
The Adrian boys’ basketball team made a bid to win its first game of the season when the Dragons entertained Murray County Central Tuesday.
The hosts sported a 21-19 lead after 18 minutes of play and sported a slim advantage with less than two minutes remaining in regulation play.
MCC, however, rallied late in the game to secure a 59-55 win.
Nick Reyne (21 points, Taylor Reker (15 rebounds and 10 points) and Brady Lonneman (15 rebounds and four steals) paced AHS statistically.
Collin Kemper chipped in 10 points for the 0-4 Dragons.
SWC overwhelms Ellsworth’s boys
The Ellsworth boys’ basketball team couldn’t produce an upset when it entertained defending Section 3A champion Southwest Christian.
The visiting Eagles were clicking in all aspects of the game on their way to securing a 71-41 victory over the Panthers.
SWC rolled to a 47-15 lead in the first half before EHS used a 26-24 scoring edge in the second half to make it a 30-point difference at game’s end.
Drew Cheskie led the Panthers with 14 points and nine rebounds.
Mitch Leuthold netted 12 points for 0-4 EHS.
