Community opens hearts (and wallets) to local charity

SHARE board members Val Saarloos (left) and Mandy Skattum accepted 36 new children’s coats from the Luverne Knights of Columbus Friday as part of the annual SHARE coat distribution. KC members (from left) Dick Smook, Del Domagala and Paul Doherty said their organization supports coat giveaways nationwide and has distributed more than 70,000 coats across the country since 2009. The 2012 Rock County coat giveaway was facilitated by SHARE (Sharing Hearts Are Reaching Everyone) with the ATLAS for Life office in Luverne providing the space to gather them. Coats were distributed Nov. 28 and Dec. 1 and are still available at ATLAS (Attaining Truth, Love and Self-control) until Dec. 26th for anyone in need. Many individuals and organizations donate coats, and Saarloos said the recipients are “overwhelmingly grateful” for them. Skattum said, “We (SHARE) really don’t know how to tell you how much this means.”
