Salvation Army kettles now at Glen’s
The Salvation Army kettles and bell ringers are now in the Glen's Food Center lobby through Christmas Eve. All funds raised in Rock County are used locally to make the holidays brighter for those in need. Healthy Community Forum to meet at Banquet Center Nov. 29
Building healthier communities will be discussed at the Healthy Community Forum from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Blue Mound Banquet and Meeting Center in Luverne.
Participants will learn of efforts underway in Nobles, Pipestone and Rock counties to improve health through increasing opportunities for better nutrition, increased physical activity and decreased exposure to commercial tobacco products. The forum is free and open to the public, and a dinner of all local foods will be provided.
Annual library puppet show set for Nov. 30
Join the Rock County Community Library at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, for the annual Puppet Show Story Hour. The title of this year’s show is “The Three Pigs and the Great Christmas Tree Adventure.” All ages are welcome to attend this free event.
Santa's Workshop during Luverne's Winterfest
Kids in kindergarten through fourth grade are invited to the “shopping center” and “craft room” at Santa’s 4-H Workshop at Luverne Elementary School from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, as part of the Luverne Winterfest Celebration. 4-H “elves” will help kids shop for gifts for parents, grandparents or others, or help create “make and take” crafts. Gifts range from $1 to $5. Craft activities are $1.50 each.
Sign up for De-Light-Ful 5K
Sign up for the annual De-Light-Ful 5K run that begins at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Luverne Area Aquatics and Fitness Center in Luverne. Race day registration will be from 5 to 5:45 p.m. at the pool for $15. Advanced registration for $12 can be completed at www.allsportcentral.com. Post Race will be at Sharkee’s with the band “Undercover” providing music from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Hardwick’s Zion Lutheran hosts Christmas concert Dec. 2
Join the congregation of Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, for their first-ever instrumental Christmas concert featuring the guitar and violin students of Harlan Strong, Luverne. A light meal and Bunco will follow the recital.
Hospice Tree of Lights
Sanford Hospice Luverne will sponsor the Annual Tree of Lights in area communities. The deadline to submit names to light a light on a Christmas tree is Tuesday, Dec. 4. The public is invited to attend the following lighting ceremonies: Wednesday, Dec. 5: 7 p.m. outside First State Bank Southwest, Edgerton; and Sunday, Dec. 9: 6 p.m. outside the Adrian Fire Hall; 6:30 p.m. outside Sanford Hospice Cottage, Luverne, and at 7 p.m. Tuff Village in Hills.

Bank Nite movie ‘Arthur Christmas’ at Palace Dec. 6
The free Bank Nite movie, “Arthur Christmas,” will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at the Palace Theatre in Luverne.
Sponsored by First Farmers & Merchants Bank and Papik Motors, a free, family-friendly movie is shown on the first Thursday of every month as it was done for “Bank Nite” in the 1930s. A cash prize drawing will follow the movie. Must be present to win. Last month’s $50 cash winner was Joanne Waterbury.
Sign up for Community Ed’s fifth-/sixth-grade basketball tourney
Teams may sign up now for Luverne Community Education’s invitational basketball tournament on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, for fifth- and sixth-grade boys’ and girls’ teams. Pool play format is used with six courts available in one building. Students are guaranteed at least two games. Teams may use the registration form at isd2184.net under the Community Ed link or call 283-4724. Entry fee of $90 per team must accompany registration.
