Mountain Lake ends H-BC's run

A run of posting consecutive wins came to an end for the Hills-Beaver Creek volleyball team hosted Mountain Lake for a Red Rock Conference match in Hills Thursday.

H-BC was riding high after posting their first two wins of the season in a stretch of six days entering Thursday’s match with the Wolverines.

The Patriots played well again, but Mountain Lake met the challenge by securing 25-18, 25-19 and 25-19 wins in straight sets.

“Mountain Lake has a quality team,” said H-BC coach Mary Jo Graphenteen.

“We hit the ball well at times, but they were able to dig everything up. We played as well as we ever have against a quality team, but we just got beat by a better team.”

Haley Van Wyhe (two kills and seven of eight serving with four points), Hattie Van Wyhe (12 digs and 10 of 11 serving with seven points) and Paige Leuthold (nine set assists and nine of 10 serving) paced H-BC statistically.

Meghan Leuthold and Kelly Esselink registered five and two kills respectively.
