The Hills-Beaver Creek-Ellsworth cross country squads made their 2010 debuts Tuesday in Salem, S.D.
During an invitational meet that attracted 32 teams, the Patriots represented Southwest Minnesota well.
The H-BC-E girls placed third in the varsity standings with 35 points, finishing behind West Central (33 points) and Garretson (23 points).
The Patriot boys placed fifth overall with 46 points.
Whitney Wilgenburg, one of three sisters forming H-BC-E’s varsity team Tuesday, won the individual title with a time of 16:41.
Siera and Jenna Wilgenburg finished 10th and 31st with respective 17:58 and 18:58 efforts.
Ryan Weitgenant set the pace for H-BC-E’s boys by finishing eighth in 17:35.
Luke Werner and Dillion Hoiland capped the team scoring by placing 17th and 40th in 18:30 and 19:45.
Travis Helgeson placed 43rd in 19:57 without influencing the team scoring.
Susanna Bekedam placed 16th in the girls’ junior varsity race with a time of 14:24, while Cole Meester finished 26th in 18:27 during the boys’ junior varsity event.
H-BC-E runs at the Garretson Invitational Tuesday.
