Racers take off to earn funds for the Miracle Network

Main Street in Beaver Creek was a busy place Saturday morning when crowds cheered on 62runners and walkers during the Run for the Kids 5K Fun Run.

Jodi and Chris Harnack organize the annual race, which brought in a larger crowd than the previous year.

Runners pay a registration fee that covers the cost of their T-shirts. The remaining funds are given to the Children’s Miracle Network in Sioux Falls. This year the total donation was more than $900.

A group of runners led the pack through a hilly course that included a stretch of wet grass at the golf course.

For the men, Paul Tweet claimed a close victory over Adam Dahlquist, with only three seconds between their times.

The women had a close finish as well with Joni Deelstra finishing just four seconds ahead of Rosa Hadriek.

A large group of serious and causal walkers followed behind. There were several families and a handful of strollers.

The Harnacks said they enjoy helping children and were inspired by the fundraising efforts of the Dsythe family.

The Dsythes organize a community party in August to raise money for the organization.

The Harnacks are already planning for next year's race. They hope to offer a prize to the largest group inattendence.
