Wally’s Nursery has egg plant, three types of onions, sweet corn, peppers, potatoes and tomatoes among their garden of produce. The nursery also sells perennials, annuals, trees and shrubs.
Food shopping in Hills can be limited.
Sundem Oil offers a wide variety of shelf products, but for residents looking for fresh food, there is only one place to go, Wally’s Nursery.
Until recently.
Now shoppers can also schedule a visit on Saturday morning to the Hills Farmers' Market.
The market started in July and organizers plan to keep it running through the end of September, possibly mid-October.
A handful of families have become regular vendors at the market. On Saturday morning at 9 a.m. they set up their tables and display their goods.
One table offers farm fresh eggs, and another has homemade bread. Sugar-free jams, coffee and baked goods are usually available alongside a bountiful array of garden produce.
Local gardeners have just recently started to see the full harvest from their gardens. Sales last week included tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, herbs, watermelon, apples and beans.
Other vendors have sold homemade items including jewelry, purses, clothing, cards, magnets and pottery.
Anyone interested in selling items can join the market, as long as they live in and around Hills.
