Hills-Beaver Creek High School junior Whitney Wilgenburg finished the track season by placing eighth in the 3,200-meter run at the Minnesota State Class A Track and Field Championships Friday at Hamline University in St. Paul. By placing ninth or better, Wilgenburg received all-state honors for her effort.

Whitney Wilgenburg, who made her second straight appearance at the state classic in the 3,200-meter run, cracked the top-nine finishers in Friday’s finals to earn all-state status.
Competing in a 16-runner field, Wilgenburg placed eighth overall with a time of 11:37.96.
Her eighth-place effort yielded two team points for the Hills-Beaver Creek-Ellsworth-Edgerton squad, leaving the Patriots tied for 68th place in team competition.
Wilgenburg posted a better time (11:34.72) during her second-place finish at the Section 3A meet in Montevideo one week earlier.
Her effort on Friday was much better than her first appearance at the state classic in 2009, when Wilgenburg placed 13th overall with an 11:52.18 effort.
