5K brings in $525 for summer rec programs

On Saturday morning a festive group of 32 runners and walkers participated in the first annual St. Patrick’s Day 5K Run/Walk at Around the Clock Fitness and Tanning in Hills. Temperatures remained mild, hovering in the upper thirties, but conditions on the course were tough once the group entered the Rez park area. The ground was muddy and there were patches of ice and snow. Brent Kramer (pictured on page 3) finished first with a time of 19 minutes, 35 seconds. Missy Bass was the first woman to cross the line at 25 minutes, 29 seconds. Stacen and Donna Burgers, owners of the fitness center, organized the event as a fundraiser for the Hills-Beaver Creek Community Education Foundation. The program supports recreational programs for elementary and middle school children, including summer softball, baseball and T-ball. On Monday the Burgers announced that they were donating $525 to the program.
