Area artists displayed their work throughout Luverne during this year’s Studio Tour Saturday afternoon.
Kathy Deuschle, a Luverne artist, said this year’s program was “very well received” and that they weather was beautiful for the event.
Eight different locations hosted more than 15 artists and various pieces. Carol Ceynowa of Luverne showed Titania’s Garden on West Crawford Street. Kathy and husband, Jerry, Deuschle as well as Cindy Reverts were featured at Deuschle Studio on 131st Street. Brandenburg Gallery hosted Jim Brandenburg, Francis Ladd and Chris Nowatzki. Kristin Peterson and Judith Foenstrom showed Altered States Sudio and ARTifacts, respecitively, at Carnegie Cultural Center. Katie Walgrave showed her works at Those Blasted Things on South Kniss Avenue, while Brenda Winter’s work was featured downtown Luverne at Myre Studio. Prairie Moon Gallery was the location for local artists Sandra Dowie and Marcella Slater. Also at Prairie Moon was Simple Perspective Photography by Marilyn Zimmermann of Sioux Falls.
“This is such a good venue for local artists,” Zimmerman said.
Providing background music at were Slater (harp) and Eric Sommer. Sommer is a national-touring guitarist and a first-time visitor to Luverne. Sommer began his music career in Boston, Ma. With “a mixture of roots-pure, fingerstyle acoustic guitar and new wave pop, a blurred combination of Nick Lowe, The Cars, Davy Graham and Spider John Koerner influences.”
Finally, various artists were featured at The Coffey Haus, which also hosted an artist reception to conclude this year’s Holiday Studio Tour. The prize drawing for Brandenburg’s original photo “Birches in Snow” went to Wanda Clark, of Dakota Potter Supply, Sioux Falls.
This was the second year of the Holiday Tour. “I’m sure it will continue as an annual event,” Deuschle said.
