Students learn new way of seeing
David Walle brings guide dog to elementary school

David Walle visited Luverne Elementary School second-graders Friday to share with them what life looks like through the eyes of someone who relies on a guide dog for help with daily living. He said Chloe is a mobility dog who has an important job. “She’s so smart,” said Walle, who has been blind since birth. “Sight is necessary for what we do every day, but it is not necessary for everything. There are blind teachers, there are blind lawyers, there are blind ministers. The key is we have to have good, quality training to prepare for life.” He told students that Chloe helps him to funtion in life. Walle is currently living in Luverne, taking care of Kay Franklin’s apartment. He has been a music teacher, a minister and worked for the Department of Ag. As part of his presentation Friday, he played the piano and invited students to sing with him, “This Land is Your Land.”
