Community members circle the city park during 2009 CropWalk

Walkers took laps around Luverne City Park to raise money for hunger during the 13th Annual CropWalk on Sunday.

Approximately 90 people participated in the walk. Registration began at 1 p.m. and walkers circled the park at 2 p.m. Participants enjoyed complimentary root beer floats following the walk.

The CropWalk is a communal effort among local churches and area citizens. All donated money benefits hunger programs countywide, statewide, nationwide and worldwide. The focus is helping the more than 20 percent of the global population that lives on less than $1 per day.

Donations were divided equally among hunger programs in Rock County, Minnesota, the United States and the world. Over the past 12 years, the CropWalk has raised a total of more than $100,000.

The CropWalk committee members include George Bonnema, Rhonda Olson, Julie Tofteland, Mary Lou Mulligan, Liz Scheidt and Jane Wildung Lanphere.
