Grace Van Batavia
Grace Van Batavia, 85, Luverne, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at Luverne Community Hospital.
Services were Saturday, July 3, at American Reformed Church in Luverne. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery, Luverne.
Grace Franken was born to Gerrit and Gertrude (Bosch) Franken Sr. on June 14, 1919, in rural Sioux Center, Iowa. Upon completion of her education, she helped on the farm.
She married Bernard Van Batavia on Nov. 13, 1941, on a farm near Sioux Center. Following their marriage, the couple made their home on the Van Batavia farm near Luverne. They later moved to Luverne. She worked as a dietician at Luverne Community Hospital. After her retirement she and her husband enjoyed many winters in Arizona.
Mrs. Van Batavia was a charter member of American Reformed Church in Luverne.
Survivors include two sets of twins, Virgil Van Batavia and his fiancé, Sue Young, Sauk Rapids, and Verlyn (Susan) Van Batavia, Roger (Barb) Van Batavia, all of Luverne, and Ruth (Mark) Wallig, Mesa, Ariz.; nine grandchildren, Tammy (Tom) Johnson, Debbie (Jason) Pantekoek, Jill (Dale) Brausen, Scott Cauwels, Sherry Cauwels, Jenny Dammann, Cory Van Batavia, Tom Cauwels, and David Van Batavia; 11 great-grandchildren, Brook, Trevor and Saira (Brausen), Brandie, Kaila, Torri and Jamie (Pantekoek), Jordan Dammann, and Lyndsie, and twins, Emilee and Nicholas (Johnson); and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Mrs. Van Batavia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bernard, three brothers and one sister.
