•Donatello’s Café and Deli in Hills opened this morning at 6 a.m. for its first day of business.
Residents in the area have been waiting for the opening of the new restaurant since owners Eugene and Diane Immediato purchased the building from the city of Hills in December 2003 for $8,000.

•Steve Wiertzema, H-BC High School’s Athletic Director, was honored as Worthington Community College’s Alumni Coach of the Year Tuesday, May 23, at WCC’s All Sports Athletic Banquet. ...
Wiertzema coached H-BC girls’ basketball teams to four district titles and a Subsection championship in 1993. Later that year his team went on to compete in the Section finals.
 
50 years ago (1965)
•The first summer band concert will be held here Saturday evening, June 12, on the band stand.
As in previous years, the concerts are sponsored by the Commercial Club members of Hills.
 
75 years ago (1940)
•One hundred acres on the east side of Sheldon, Iowa, was sold for $1,000 per acre last Tuesday.
 
 
100 years ago (1915)
•Memorial Day was observed in Hills last Saturday afternoon in a befitting manner when a large crowd turned out to pay tribute to the veterans of the Civil War, exercises being held in the Trinity church. This is the first time in the history of Hills that Memorial Day has been observed.
