Alliance Communications representative Paul VanDeBerg presented a check for $5,500 to Hills-Beaver Creek Elementary Principal Jason Phelps on May 20.
The money will be used for the playground resurfacing project. The money was made possible through a program called “Keep The Change,” which provides financial support to organizations and projects in the Alliance Communications service areas.
Funds in “Keep The Change” are donated by Alliance Communications customers and are given back to community, school and nonprofit organizations.
Alliance serves the communities of Alcester, Alvord, Baltic, Brandon, Carthage, Crooks, Garretson, Hills, Howard, Hudson, Inwood, Larchwood, Lester, Lyons, Oldham, Ramona, Sherman Steen and Valley Springs.
In December 2013, Alliance Communications began rounding up bills (to the closest dollar) of customers who chose to participate in the voluntary program.
The additional change is placed in a special fund managed by the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation.
The “Keep the Change” Board of Directors allocates the funds.
The seven-member board operates independently of the cooperative, evaluates all completed applications for funding, and makes decisions on how the funds are dispersed.
