One Warm Coat Project
The Rock County One Warm Coat Project is collecting clean, reusable coats (children’s coats especially). Coats may be brought to ATLAS for Life, 201 E. Main Street in Luverne Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 1 to 8 p.m. through Oct. 31. Library offers Fall Story Hour events
Story Hour is open to pre-school children ages 4-5. Story Hour will be from 10 to 11 a.m. every Thursday until Nov. 19. Register your child by calling 449-5040.
Laptime Story Hour is open to ages birth-3 with an adult. No registration is required. Laptime Story Hour will be from 10:30 to 11 a.m. every Friday through Nov. 20.

All books at the Friends of the Library Booksale will be free through Saturday, Oct. 3.
 
Pheasants Forever Banquet Oct. 1
The 31st Annual Pheasants Forever Banquet is set for Thursday, Oct. 1, at the Blue Mound Banquet Center in Luverne. A social hour begins at 5 p.m. followed by a dinner at 7 p.m. The evening entertainment will be watching the Baltimore Ravens vs. Pittsburgh Steelers football game on a big screen TV that will be raffled off after the game, as well as other drawings and raffles.

Bank Nite movie ‘Hook’ Oct. 1
The free Bank Nite movie, “Hook,” will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at the Palace Theatre in Luverne.
Sponsored by First Farmers & Merchants National Bank and Papik Motors, a free, family-friendly movie is shown on the first Thursday of every month as it was done for “Bank Nite” in the 1930s. A cash prize drawing will follow the movie. Must be present to win.
 
Homecoming game and meal Oct. 2
Luverne’s Homecoming football game will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, against Blue Earth Area. The Luverne High School Junior-Senior Prom Committee will serve a meal prior to kickoff starting at 5:30 p.m. near the field entry.
 
Combat from Behind the Camera Oct. 2
Nationally known combat photographer Stacy Pearsall will be in Luverne Friday, Oct. 2, to share her story about what combat is like from behind the camera.
She will speak to students in Luverne High School Friday morning, Oct. 2, and will make a public presentation at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the historic Palace Theatre.
Tickets are $10 for the public but free to veterans. They are available at the Luverne Area Chamber at 283-4061.
 
Learn to Skate registration Oct. 5
Registration for figure skating and hockey skating classes will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, at the Blue Mound Ice Arena in Luverne. The classes begin Monday, Oct. 19, and run for 14 weeks. For more information see ad on Page 4B or call Katie at 507-227-1999 or Cathy at 712-540-9021.
 
Prevention Week is Oct. 5-9
•Luverne Fire Department members will sell movie tickets Monday night, Oct. 5, for their annual show drive for Fire Prevention Week.
•The fire hall open house will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8. There will be kitchen fire safety and Jaws of Life demonstrations in addition to refreshments.
•Firefighters will assist the public in changing smoke detector batteries Oct. 12. Call City Hall, 449-2388.
 
Chuckwagon Feed Oct. 6
The 64th Annual Rock County DFL Chuckwagon Feed will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the Pizza Ranch in Luverne. Serving begins at 5:30 p.m. and will continue until 7:30 p.m. through the regular buffet line. All proceeds will go to support Democratic Farm-Labor candidates.
 
4-H Open House
Rock County 4-H will host an Open House/Enrollment Night from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at the Community Meeting Room next to the Extension Office at 2 Roundwind Road, Luverne (Health and Human Services Building). All youth in grades K-13 are invited to join any one of the seven clubs in Rock County. Call the Extension Office with any questions at 507-283-1302. Pizza will be served throughout the evening.
 
Grief Support Group begins Oct. 5
Sanford Luverne Hospice will offer a five-week fall grief support group beginning Monday, Oct. 5, through Nov. 2 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Sanford Luverne Medical Center in the Blue Mound Room.

Habitat Oktoberfest fundraiser Oct. 10
The SW Minnesota Habitat for Humanity will host an Oktoberfest fundraiser with live music, a rib feed and great beer from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at Take 16 Brewery on Main Street in Luverne. Inside seating will be available.
 
St. Catherine shreddeing Oct. 10
St. Catherine Church of Luverne Carmelites will again sponsor a Dakota Shred It truck at the corner of Highway 75 and Main at the Laundry Room parking lot from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10. The truck is capable of shredding large volumes of paper. No need to remove paperclips and staples. A freewill donation will be accepted.
 
CoffeeBreak to begin Oct. 13
CoffeeBreak will meet at 9:30 a.m. each Tuesday beginning Tuesday, Oct. 13, through April 2, at the Luverne Christian Reformed Church (605 N. Estey St.). The Book of Isaiah will be the Bible study.
A get-acquainted kickoff and registration will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6. There is no cost, and all faiths are welcome.
StoryHour, a time of play and Bible stories, will be available for children ages 2 through kindergarten, and a nursery is available for the littlest ones.

Hospice Tour of Tables set for Oct. 24
Sanford Luverne Hospice will host its annual Tour of Tables luncheon Saturday, Oct. 24. Contact the hospice office at 283-1805 if you are interested in decorating and hosting a table, donating a gift basket, or purchasing an individual ticket. The deadline is Oct. 1.

Disney Live! Three Classic Fairy Tales will be presented at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul Oct. 18. Register by Sept. 29 for the chartered bus trip. Fee is $67 which includes bus ride and admission.
Enjoy running on a real cross-country course at Runnin’ for Fun on Friday, Oct. 2. Ages kindergarten and older. Fee is $5.
Children ages 3-5 along with a parent will ride a school bus to Sioux Center’s Pumpkin Land on Monday, Oct. 5. Choose a pumpkin, go through the maze, visit the petting zoo, and more. Fee is $7 per person.
Students in grades k-3 will be inspired by the Nature Explore Outdoor Classroom on Monday, Oct. 5, to Be Yourself. Using art supplies, they will make a snip-snap book and create a journal. Fee is $12.
Children ages 0-5 along with their parents may visit the Pumpkin Patch to find a pumpkin on either Monday, Oct. 5 or Tuesday, Oct. 6. Fee is $3 per person.
Learn about all the types of child safety seats for infants and children at Children Passenger Safety on Thursday morning, Oct. 8. Perfect for parents and grandparents. No fee, but please register.
Basketball registrations are due by Friday, Oct. 9, for grades 3-6.
Register by Friday, Oct. 9, to be one of the climbers at the Blue Mound State Park at this Introduction to Rock Climbing class offered on Saturday, Oct 17. Fee is $75.
Let’s Play in Nature on Friday, Oct. 9, will meet in the Nature Explore Outdoor Classroom to read a story, make a puppet, sing songs and enjoy each other. Children ages 3-5. Fee is $12.
