Community Transit closed Christmas and New Year’s

Community Transit buses (former Heartland Express) normally run from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, but the service is closed Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Call 283-5088 with questions.


Bell ringers needed

The Salvation Army is seeking volunteer bell ringers for the donation kettle in the Teal’s Grocery entryway. Two-hour time slots are available from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Dec. 23. Call 283-4914 to sign up.


Free food Dec. 21

New Life Celebration Church will host a free food giveaway from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, in the Luverne Senior Citizens Building for those having trouble putting food on the table. Bring bags and boxes. Call 283-4366 with questions.


Join in Game Day at library Dec. 27

Students in sixth grade and above are invited to the Rock County Community Library from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, for an afternoon of playing various board, card, and dice games with friends. Stop by the library or call 507-449-5040 to register for the event.

Kick off the New Year with park hike

The Blue Mounds State Park is hosting a family-friendly hike from 1-2 p.m New Year’s Day. Meet at the picnic grounds parking lot for a walk through the winter wonderland of the prairie. The 1-mile hike will take approximately one hour and will require hiking through snow that may be uneven or not compacted. Wear warm clothing and sturdy snowboots. Snowpants are recommended.

Try out for Green Earth play Jan. 7-8

Auditions are set for the next Green Earth Players production, “KOLD Radio —Whitefish Bay,” a comedy by Phil Olson.

Try-outs for the cast of five men, four women, and one teenage girl are set for 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, and 5-7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, at the GEP building at 401 Edgehill Street in Luverne.

Performances are set for March 16-18 and 22-25.


‘Sister Act’ bus trip to Chanhassen

Luverne Community Education is offering a bus trip to Chanhassen Dinner Theater on Saturday, Feb. 10, to see “Sister Act.”
